I spent a season as an on-ice official (Referee most of the time, Linesman occasionally) in the UK. The best game I ever watched (as a spectator the Referee has figuratively the best "seat" in the house!) was at the very rink in Bracknell where Courtenay's interviewer from the BBC met him. The BBC blogger is wrong saying that only one ex-NHL'er has played in the UK though. I can recall a few others. Jim McTaggart (ex- Washington Capitals) for one.
